TOKYO
The number of new daily coronavirus infections in Tokyo hit a single-day record of 224 on Thursday, the metropolitan government said.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said about 80% of the new coronavirus cases were among people in their 20s and 30s, Reuters reported. Suga also said there was no need to reintroduce a state of emergency.

The record follows the confirmation of 75 new coronavirus infections the previous day in the capital, dropping to double digits for the first time in seven days.

"The medical system is presently not under a strain," health minister Katsunobu Kato told reporters in response to the latest figure.

Tokyo has been striving to stem a rebound in infections since a nationwide state of emergency was lifted in late May. The pace of increase in virus infections in Japan had slowed after new cases in the capital peaked at the previous high of 206 on April 17.

The number of confirmed cases related to nightlife establishments has risen recently, particularly in Ikebukuro, a major commercial and entertainment district in Tokyo, and the Kabukicho area in the Shinjuku district, according to officials.

Tokyo Gov Yuriko Koike said about 3,400 people who work in nightlife areas were being tested a day and that the number will be increased to 10,000 per day. She said the metropolitan government plans to extend financial assistance to nightclubs and other facilities in those areas if they suspend operations at the request of authorities due to group infections.

Koike has also requested residents to refrain from nonessential travel to other prefectures amid growing concern over a second wave of infections.

At over 7,000 cases, Tokyo makes up around a third of the total number of confirmed cases in the country.

Are they dying? Nope!
Tokyo is the biggest metropolis in the world with maybe 20 mil population. People sleep in small cubicles on weekdays and return to their kampung on weekends.
224 people caught with the virus is nothing.

U squeeze 11 million people in a goddam city what do u think will happen?

That means after a while we'll get 50~100 per day local infection like b4 is also normal lor, i think probably KNN CB again......... Sibeh jialat sial i'm so sick of this Mask thingy. /pui ~ ! lol........

study claims japs have 696-year old immunity that’s triggered by cell memory.

on behalf of Boss Sam, we need to check: how many are seriously sick?

It is not a problem because hardly any of those who test positive are actually sick.

There is no way the virus is going to be eliminated so there is no point counting the cases. It achieves nothing.

We don't count daily influenza numbers or HIV numbers so why bother counting Covid-19 numbers?

KNN their jleague just started rast weekend my uncle strike 5/5 from the 5 matches played KNN hopefully the league not affected KNN

seem that wuhan virus is not going away. what to do ?

There is no need to do anything. The curve is far flatter than was originally calculated and this is because the initial figures were based upon the assumption that every single person in any population group would have an equal chance of catching the virus.

We now know that in any given population around 80% are naturally immune because of a prior coronavirus infection.

The virus is not going away so we should just get on with our lives the way we do when influenza season hits us.

If April never lockdown ,40 a day community cases will eventually become 400 a day three weeks later.

All lockdowns do is postpone the inevitable and extend the problem. We should just get it over and done with.

We should be looking at HK. Over 7m, more densely populated than Singapore. But their figures thus far are truly gold standard notwithstanding the recent spike. Also never had a full lockdown like our CB and still a smattering of anti-china public protests.

That is bullshyt .if that is true I suggest taking 10,000 NSF from all around sinkieland and putting them in tekong or saf camps and confine them and let them breathe covid infused air thru air conditioning ducts for 3 months.......if 80 percent of them remain uninfected after 3 months.....I will chop.
