Toothpick Lim Siay Suay recruits retirees to boost NTUC membership numbers

UNION membership in Singapore has reached a new high.

As of last month, there were 770,000 union members, up from 730,000 in December last year, said the NTUC.

Among them are 70,000 from its youth wing and retirees, 135,000 foreign workers and 565,000 local workers. Mr Lim said the objective is to reach 1 million members by 2015, a target first set in 2005.

The problem with such a strategy is that those members tend to 'cancel' their memberships permanently within a few years.

WP should ask for the breakdown. How many General members, branch unions, house unions etc.?

Knn..me old uncle liao, already retired aeons ago, still holds General Membership to enjoy Link card, and NTUC Fairprice discounts. Since all PMETs are unemployed, they must also be general members.
