Sbs has many good doco's on immigration. I remember watching a series on the Chinese immigrants in Oz. They interviewed a australian chinese who tried to join the army during WW2.

He said the recruitment officer looked at him and his papers and told him: "you cannot join the army."

The chinese guy asked why.

"because your father was born in China."

Then the chinese guy said: "But I am here to join the army. Not my father."

The recruitment officer blew his top! LOL

Turned out the chinese dude went to join the navy and even became a decorated war hero. I remember he was in the V/X/Y/Z force unit or something.

You must be referring to the late Jack Wong. He was a decorated hero from Perth.
He was rejected from the Navy and joined the Z force in RAAF.

Chinese have been in Perth since before federation.

Yes thanks! I looked up wiki and i think that's him!

I must have watched that doco series in 97. Go look it up. They even revealed the hongkie inventors of those horrible dim sims.

Today is Anzac day. After watching so many documentaries and news on it today. I think I have more confident in the ADF protecting the nation then what the SAF would ever do for Singapore. Australia have been in every major war since 1915. I've talked to a lot of aussies, and they have no doubt to join the army in times of war should the need arise. The aussies, with the ANZAC tradition, have a much better attitude then what NS could ever foster. It also reminded me that SAF has never been involved in any major war at all.

just being sarcastic lah... damn... one more day of holiday tomorrow... boring...

Why boring ... unless you are in Perth. (Just kidding)

The weather is excellent now for outdoor activities.

I got a ANZAC gift (see above) from an appreciative neighbour.

boring because the city is shut down. i am been surviving on indomee, orange juice and nultrigrain cereal for the past 4 days :(

I stocked up 5 days of food at home. I've learned to cook when being here. its simple and the ingrediants are fresh here compared to what you can get back home. I just don't like buying groceries in Singapore for some reason. Pan-fry salmon, with salad and mushroom cooked in butter. You should try the fresh food here.

Poor thing. Which city are you in.

Fresh Provision is open 364 days (Xmas excepted)
otherwise, the farmers' markets/weekend markets are open.
