SINGAPORE: The Home Affairs Ministry has released five Singaporean members of the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist network on restriction orders. This came after their Orders of Detention issued under the Internal Security Act expired.
The ministry said three brothers Muhamad Ismail Anuwarul, Abdul Rashid Anwarul and Abdul Nassir Anwarul were released on the March 28.
They were members of the Malaysian JI network and were previously detained in Malaysia.
The three were arrested upon their deportation to Singapore and detained under Singapore's ISA in March 2006.
Another two Singapore JI detainees were also released on restriction orders on Sunday. They are Ab Wahab Ahmad and Sanin Riffin were detained in September 2002.
This means that while they are no longer under detention, their activities and movements are restricted.
The ministry said the five men had been cooperative in investigations and showed progress in their rehabilitation, including religious counselling.
They were assessed to no longer pose a security threat that required detention. - CNA/
