Tiger's injuries 'inflicted by wife'

Tiger Woods did not suffer facial injuries from a car accident. They were inflicted by his wife, Elin Nordegren, according to celebrity website TMZ.

Tiger, 33, has yet to be formally interviewed by the Florida Highway Patrol but the world's most No 1 golfer apparently had a conversation with a friend detailing what went on before his Cadillac Escalade SUV hit a fire hydrant and a tree.

TMZ reported that Tiger's Swedish wife had confronted him about reports that he was seeing another woman.

The argument got heated and his wife reportedly scratched his face forcing Woods to "beat a hasty retreat" to his SUV.

Elin, a formermodel was said to have followed behind with a golf club. As Tiger drove away, she struck the vehicle several times with the club.

Tiger became "distracted," thought the vehicle was stopped, and looked to see what had happened. At that point the SUV hit the fire hydrant and then hit a tree.

According to TMZ, Tiger may well be waiting for the telltale wounds on his face to heal. It said if Tiger and his wife acknowledge she scratched him up, she could be arrested for domestic abuse.

Tiger had also reportedly told his friend he had been taking prescription painkillers and that was why he seemed dazed after the crash.

It said driving under the influence of painkillers could be a problem, if it was provable.

Rumours are rife that the late-night car crash was the result of a domestic row over an alleged affair with Manhattan nightclub hostess Rachel Uchitel.

Uchitel, 34, is a New York party planner with a reputation for dating married celebs. She has denied any relationship with Woods.

"God forbid Tiger got into a car wreck because of this false report of him having an affair. I resent my reputation is getting completely blasted in the media," she said during a telephone interview late Friday.

"Everyone is assuming I came out and said this. This is not a story I have anything to do with."

Uchitel said she was in Melbourne two weeks ago with clients and never saw Woods the entire time she was there.

The National Enquirer had a day earlier claimed that Tiger cheated on his wife during the recent Australian Masters in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, AP reports that police went to Tiger Woods' mansion on saturday to clear up questions about how he crashed his SUV.

Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Montes said investigators were "trying not to get on the rumour mill."

Though there still has been no information on where he was heading at that hour, plenty of details from the crash have emerged:

His lips were cut, and Windermere police chief Daniel Saylor said Woods' used a golf club to smash out a back window and help Woods from the car.

The police report said alcohol was not a factor but there are still plenty of questions.

Woods is to host his Chevron World Challenge next week in Thousand Oaks, California, which benefits his foundation.

"We do not know if Tiger is playing; we are anticipating a great week of competition," said Greg McLaughlin, the tournament director and president of his foundation.

The highway patrol had initially classified Woods' injuries as serious in the accident report.

The first word from Woods' camp - some 13 hours after the crash - was that it was a "minor accident," and he was in good condition after being treated and released.

Saylor said his two officers found Tiger lying in the street with his wife, hovering over him.

Saylor said Woods' wife told officers she was in the house when she heard the accident and "broke the back window with a golf club."

He said the front-door windows were not broken and that "the door was probably locked."

"She supposedly got him out and laid him on the ground," he said. "He was in and out of consciousness when my guys got there."
