I WOULD like to express my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the entire crew of AirAsia flight AK 6066 for being compassionate and sympathetic towards my seriously ill father, Mr Mohammad Ashraf Haj Abdul Rehman, a stretcher-bound patient. On Sunday morning, AirAsia flew him safely back to Singapore for further treatment from Miri, Sarawak. My father was in a critical condition and unable to move much.
As my mother and I stepped onto the plane, I was touched to see the captain, Mr Ong Kean Soon, tell the first officer, Mr Splendor Aravinda Bouman, the best way to position my father on the three seats with the armrest lifted. The senior flight attendant, Ms Siti Halifah, and one other airport staff member looked on and gave their professional advice.
I learnt from the captain that he had blocked the last two rows in the back, a total of 12 seats, just for us. Ms Siti Halifah and the other flight attendants, Ms Siti Faizah Sawil, Ms Fay Christie Fiowou and Mr Nasrul Musa, were professional in attending to us and the other passengers. I was touched when they took the initiative to ask the passengers to use the toilets at the front of the plane.
While in flight, the captain and the first officer came down the aisle to check on my father. While going about their duties, the flight attendants never failed to ensure that my father, my mother and I were comfortable throughout the flight. Thanks to the care and concern shown by the AirAsia crew, my father slept throughout the flight.
My family and I would also like to thank all the other passengers for their kind understanding. We also thank the airport staff for all their help.
We also cannot forget the invaluable help by the staff of Columbia Asia Hospital in Miri who transferred my father to Miri Airport with utmost care. I would also like to say a big thank you to all my friends in Miri and Brunei, and my colleagues in Singapore, to Dr Shahab of Miri Hospital and a special thanks to Mr Mazula Khan for being there for my father.
