Three Vinod 08 gang members nabbed after high-speed chase
BY AUSTIN CAMOENS
KUALA LUMPUR: Police expect to smash the Vinod 08 gang following the arrest of three members after a high-speed chase along the city roads early Tuesday. Two other gang members have been identified.
Police got their break after a Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck was reported stolen in Jinjang at about 1.40am.
Policemen in a patrol car managed to locate the vehicle near Plaza Umno in Batu Caves and issued an alert for back-up. Six patrol cars were dispatched to the scene.
What followed was a chase through the city roads from Batu Caves to Sungai Tua where one of the suspects fired at the police.
Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the chase continued with the suspects heading towards Jalan Ipoh where they tried to ram a police car off the road.
The suspects managed to escape with the pick-up.
ACP Abdul Rahim said a follow-up operation was conducted and at about 4am three suspects, aged 22 to 26, were nabbed near Taman Pinggiran in Batu Caves.
“We seized a fake gun, several ATM and credit cards which did not belong to them,” he said. One of the suspects led police to recover the pick-up truck that was parked at an apartment in the same area.
Police identified the remaining suspects still at large as S. Sathiyanathan, 21 and R. Lachumanan @ Murali, 27.
“We raided their houses but have yet to locate them,” ACP Abdul Rahim said. He urged anyone with information on the two to call the police immediately.
The case has been classified as attempted murder under Section 307 Penal Code.
Police believed the suspects were connected to three men who were arrested after they rammed a Road Transport Department (JPJ) road block along the MRR2 recently.
In that case, police nabbed three suspects after a high-speed chase along the Middle Ring Road near Batu Caves on Aug 7.
