Women guilty of this familiar accusation against their less than talkative men should check out the grass on the other side.
More frightening than a quiet and boring man is Mr Know-It-All who has an unwanted (read differing) opinion on everything.
Reticence or better still, silence, are oft-overlooked virtues. A man who agrees with you via a simple nod is better than one driven to play devil's advocate on every subject dear to you.
Listen men, any time your woman asks for your opinion, tell her what she wants to hear, even if you have to take a deadly swat at that niggling voice of conscience hovering over your shoulder.
So what do you do when saddled with a boyfriend or husband who must give his two cents' worth on anything and everything? Cook often. He who eats more speaks less. Hopefully.
Should those unsolicited comments keep coming, up the chilli padi ante in your Thai bean thread noodle salad.
A man with a burning mouth is less likely to mouth off. A smart aleck deserves nothing less than smarting lips.

THAI NOODLE SALAD
Method
Soak bean thread noodles for 10mins. Bring a pot of water to boil. Add the lemon grass stalks, kaffir lime leaves and blue ginger into the water. Discard the lemon grass, lime leaves and ginger. Boil the noodles for three mins, then drain and set aside. Place ice cubes onto the noodles to chill them quickly.
Heat oil in skillet. Add minced garlic, 1 tbsp of sliced shallots and fry until they begin to turn golden brown. Add minced chicken and fry until opaque. Add Thai chillies, fish sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil and shrimp. Once the shrimp turns orange, remove the mixture from heat and set aside to cool.
Add the dressing to the chilled noodles. Add in the meat and shrimp mixture, red pepper, spring onion, coriander, sliced shallots and crushed peanuts. Toss thoroughly. Add Thai basil and mint leaves before serving.

200g bean thread noodles, uncooked
10 shrimps, deshelled and deveined
300g minced chicken
10g Thai blue ginger
2 stalks of lemon grass, bruised
4 kaffir lime leaves, torn
2 Thai chillies, sliced
100g shallots, thinly sliced
2 cloves of garlic, minced
80g crushed roasted unsalted peanuts
1 red pepper, julienned
2 stalks of coriander, chopped
3 stalks of spring onion, sliced
20 Thai basil leaves
20 mint leaves
3 tbsp peanut oil
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp Thai fish sauce
1 tbsp Thai oyster sauce
Dressing
6 tbsp Thai fish sauce
6 tbsp lime juice
2 to 3 tbsp sugar
2 large red chillies, finely chopped
1 kaffir lime leaf, thinly shredded
1 stalk of lemon grass, thinly sliced
2 cloves of garlic, minced
