Doris Wong, 38

The business development and marketing manager left the multinational company she was working for in February this year when it downsized its operations here.
She has about 16 years of experience working in the electronics business.
She hopes to move into the tourism industry and is keen to work in the integrated resorts. She is also open to working overseas.
She has a degree in business administration (marketing) from the La Trobe University in Victoria, Australia.
SHE SAYS

'I believe my marketing skills are highly transferable and I'll be able to adapt to a new environment quickly. I'm very keen to join the integrated resorts because it's an environment that's very current.'
HR EXPERT RECOMMENDS

Mr Adrian Tan, managing director of RecruitPlus Consulting, says: 'Doris comes across as a very confident and persuasive person. I believe she has honed her skills through her years of experience in sales and marketing.
'It is not impossible for her to move into the tourism industry but because she has no experience in that field, she'll have to take a longer route to get there.
'I'll advise her to look out for job opportunities in hotels and resorts, then slowly work her way into the integrated resorts.
'It'll be good if she can secure testimonials from her former clients. I think it will make a huge impact on her resume.' e-mail: [email protected]

All these recruitment consultants are cons who earn big money by giving common sense con advice. Why not join them rather than work in IR?

Notice that this fool Adrian says that Doris does not have experience in tourism and hosptitality and should therefore work in other hotel and resorts before trying for the IR, won't other hotel and resorts, HR heads or recruiters also say the same thing?

Also is this fool so ignorant that he does not know that the SG govt has actually allowed IRs and casinos in SG for the very purpose of promising older workers to do mid career changes or for PMETs to switch jobs as their current jobs are being threatened, so what prior experience is he talking about, or maybe he knows that all these are just empty promises from PAP?

If I was Adrian, my comments would be as follows:

As an employer I would NEVER hire a marketing person who is unemployed, that would mean that this person "marketed" my products so badly that he/she is not even capable to earn his or her own salary. Much less calling him/herself a business development manager, Doris is obviously empty headed, has zero business acumen and knows nothing to develop new business. I would see her as a sales co-ordinator, or order taking sales clerk than a real marketing / business development manager and that is being generous and her salary should start at $900pm.

If she really has marketing and business development skills, the easiest thing to do is join ERA or Dennis Wee and the sky is the limit. True BD / Marketing people DO NOT need jobs.

A very polite way of saying "start as a recept or chambermaid."

When I first saw her in the paper, I find her quite attractive. But after seeing the blow-up picture by the bros here, I beg to differ. However for a woman's appearance at her age, is passable. Let's not be too harsh on her.

I think she looks perfectly great, for her age. The angle of photography didn't do her justice. I wish her all the best in her endeavours.

just my 1 cent on her presentation:

the choice of clothing is terrible...
what occassion is that set for?
looks like she's gone to attend a funeral.

1. she needs to do something about her hair.
it's a big mess.

2. the suit is ok, the skirt is ok, but not her POSE and oh my, that ugly shirt/sweater inside.
which idiot suggested that open-leg pose for her picture??
