With the 2008 Games over and a much smaller crowd expected for the upcoming Paralympics, the traffic authorities here announced yesterday that all the Olympic lanes would be reopened to regular traffic by Thursday. Beijing would also lift the even-odd restriction on vehicles travelling on the remote outskirts of the city.
But since the Paralympics will be held from Sept 6 - 17, the normal pace of life probably would not return until later next month or in October. The full set of traffic restrictions are not expected to be removed until Sept 20.
