I am a polytechnic student pursuing a media and information technology-related diploma. After reading the article, I was puzzled, worried and happy at the same time.
Why? I am happy because media-related jobs are being created, despite this recession.
But I am also puzzled and worried because of my fear that media companies will look for talent overseas rather than in Singapore.
This happened in the IT industry a few years ago. I remember when I was in secondary school, IT was very popular as a career option. Many students left secondary school and went on to take IT diploma courses at polytechnic.
They thought they could easily find a job after graduation as demand was high. The problem was that the IT industry sought overseas talent.
As a student, I am worried this 'trend' may start all over again.
Does the Ministry of Manpower and Media Development Authority have guidelines on the future ratio of foreign and local talent taking jobs in the media industry? Tan Shao Ken
