1. Is it more cost effective to buy a expensive mask and re use them by different disinfecting methods or buy a cheap mask and dispose KNN

2. Although many medical supplies and consumables are stated not reusable by medical guidelines users have to think hard on this point to identify the reasons for doing so KNN

3. Of course with no cost involve using disposable is good KNN but consider when you wear a new mask after 1 hour or so it will also become so called used mask KNN so the subject will boil down to when is the cutoff time a new mask is deemed unsafe to use KNN

4. As such user should rethink the correct method to always make the mask to be in same condition as the new mask (after been worn for 1 hour till the time is disposed) KNN

The above is not limited to mask but all other medical supplies depending on the severity risk level of reusing them KNN

As such my uncle think that for mask it is more cost effective to buy a good mask and disinfect them and reuse KNN

Disinfecting methods recommended are
1. After use clean them using alcohol wipes. Tier1 germs will be taken care of KNN
2. Next boil it at boiling point or use a microwave to heat it KNN tier2 germs will be taken care KNN
3. Sun tan it for tier3 germs KNN

By carrying out the 3 steps similar to cancer treatment of surgery radiotherapy and chemotherapy the good mask will be in good shape to reuse and could possibly be in better condition than a new mask (after been worn for 1 hour) KNN

The conclusion statement my uncle can draw is it is more practical to buy a expensive mask and disinfect to reuse than using a disposable cheap mask becas the protection level of the latter is compromised and it is not practical to dispose expensive mask for cost reason KNN

We are living in end of times, do you have the "mark" to purchase these items? "PAP, PA, RC, NTUC etc"imprint. If their RFID & scanner detects such impriint, you will be automatically be allowed to buy.

Masks cannot be re-used no matter what you do. The reason is that virii/bacteria seek a host environment that is supportive for their reproduction. So elements of your body's biome will be present on the masks. things like pH, moisture levels, and free proteins will all be found on your mask as soon as you start breathing into it. This will support microbial survivability if not multiplication. So if you pick up that mask 3 hours after using it, it will probably be colonized with whatever was in the air and happily growing away unchecked without immune cells keeping it in check. On a dry, sterile, non-porous surface, you may have a chance, but such masks unfortunately are ideal breeding grounds for virii and bacteria.

Disinfecting the mask is a no go. The only way I can think of is to gamma irradiate the sucker which nobody has access to and is simply too expensive. Alcohol wipes will barely kill anything. Boiling it and microwaving it will compromise it's structural integrity. This thing will no longer filter properly. Sun tan works on a few mechanisms, but UV is important. Problem is UV doesn't penetrate the layers. Also doesn't remove the proteins you breathed onto it which is virus/bacteria food.

Long short. The mask once used is not only useless, but dangerous to re-use. Stay safe. Use mask throw away or stay at home.
