MALAYSIA - Rampant thefts at sewerage treatment plants in Klang has crippled Indah Water Konsortium's (IWK) operations.
Almost half of the 600 treatment plants that have been hit by thieves over the last three years are malfunctioning.
The cost involved in getting these malfunctioning treatment plants back into working condition is huge and this is causing IWK a headache.
StarMetro learnt that IWK has spent more than RM3 million (S$1.20 million) to get some of the plants to operate but more money is needed to fully restore all the plants.
IWK statisticts for this year shows that 100 treatment plants are malfunctioning due to thefts and over 200 were affected over the last two years.
