SEREMBAN - Thieves carted away yet another automated-teller machine (ATM) from a bank in Seremban 2 and escaped with some RM150,000 (S$60,264) in cash.
They were believed to have entered the Maybank premises between 3.15am and 4am yesterday after smashing open a glass door.
Seremban OCPD ACP Saiful Azly Kamarudin said the suspects, believed to have been in a group of three, were also suspected to have de-activated the alarm system during the heist.
"A bank customer who went to withdraw money at about 6.50am reported the incident," he told reporters.
ACP Saiful Azly said police recovered the empty ATM along the Seremban-Labu trunk road at about 11am.
"The robbers had sprayed paint on the CCTV camera the moment they gained entry into the area where the ATM and other machines were located," he said, adding that the bank's alarm system had gone off but was immediately de-activated.
It is learnt there was no guard on duty at that time. ACP Saiful Azly said police also found a hammer at the crime scene believed to have been used to break the main glass door to the bank.
The case was being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 10 years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
