In the good old days, people like Goh Keng Swee, Toh Chin Chye, S Rajaratnam etc join PAP to fight for the independence of Singapore and to fight for the people of Singapore. Thru their sure guts and wits, the old guards of PAP fought to change Singapore from a swampy 3rd world cuntry to a 1st world nation. Even our Lau CB was like the dashing Anakin Skywalker then, fighting to liberate Singapore from the British Empire.
These days, people join PAP for a different purpose. They join PAP to move up the social ladder. They join PAP to get wealthy. They join PAP essentially for themselves. PAP is their tickets to "stardom" and to get permanent social welfare (all MPs are pensionable).
One clear cut example, we have a 20something scholar doctor, who after serving as MO in hospital, started to plan ahead for his career. He "shamelessly" availed himself to Minister Vivian so as to help in Vivian's ward in order to get the Minister's notice. He eventually succeeded. This shamless doctor is now the orgnaizing secretary for PAP (forgot his name).
So, these days, people join PAP to get rich.... even the Lau CB has turned into Darth Vader for more power and wealth....

That's why with the coming election, showed these "people" the power of vote and made some sense into thinking of joining politic for the wrong reason.

I have personal experiences with neighbours who are RC's members, whose membership was to get concessions...!, after obtaining them, they cite reasons that they are not free...

Looking at the nearest RC members list, I noticed one or two of them, do not staying in the neighbourhood??!!

Are they really serious in giving their time & effort in serving their neighbours?
