A PART of Singapore's culinary history is about to die.

Thye Moh Chan Cake House at Geylang Lorong 27 is expected to close for good this Sunday after almost seven decades of selling traditional Teochew confections.

The 68-year-old bakery specialises in Teochew-style mooncakes, which are characterised by their flaky skins.

Third-generation owner Koh Hong Chua, 65, gestured towards the back room, where his 13 helpers were churning out traditional Teochew mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

He said: "You can see for yourself, this shop is run by old people."

"We're all old already, we can't keep this going on forever."
