A woman who was portrayed as neglected despite her old age and suffering in a recent wire agency video has now clarified that she refuses help from the Government or kind passers-by.
Madam Cheng Toan Ngor, 77, was showed in an Agence France Presse clip rummaging through rubbish, struggling to load empty cardboard boxes onto her trolley and even sleeping in a heap of rubbish.
But the feisty woman is fiercely independent, telling off a bystander for trying to give her money once.
Checks with government officials showed that Madam Cheng owns property, and The New Paper understands that the property under her name is not a HDB flat.
