<!-- story content : start --> CANNES - SINGAPOREANS could get their first taste of three-dimensional (3-D) television later this year, as the authorities plan to start a trial of 3-D content on television, the Internet and possibly even mobile phones. The Media Development Authority (MDA) shared its plans during a panel discussion on 3-D TV developments at the MIPTV in Cannes, an annual trade market for television, film and digital media. Speaking to reporters after the panel discussion, Mr Yeo Chun Cheng, MDA's chief information officer and director of broadcast and music, said the trial might take place in the second half of the year, and last one to six months.

He added it was possible one of the big events in August, such as the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix, the Youth Olympic Games or the National Day Parade, could be filmed and broadcast in 3-D. To watch 3-D shows on TV, households will need 3-D TV sets and goggles. The trial could involve free-to-air and pay-TV operators, namely MediaCorp, SingTel and StarHub, as well as production houses, some of which have started to produce local 3-D content such as films and games.
