The PAPzis have long prided themselves as being purer than pure and worn white on white to reflect this image. But is white always pure and good? Think of the white supremacist Ku Klux Klan who perform their lynchings and cross-burnings in white hoods and capes. Think also of the Islamist fanatics who dream of being cloaked in white as they walk to be greeted by the '72 virgins in paradise'.
Most of all, think of the white of morphine and heroin; these are whites of addiction and dependence, of illusory highs (think YOG and F1) and terrifying lows (6.5 million), and of COLD TURKEY (withdrawal of services and upgrading).
We Singaporeans have been for too long addicted to the white on white of the PAPzi heroin. If we do not wean ourselves from it on 7 May, we are just one step closer to complete and utter ruin. Unfortunately, because we have become so dependent for so long, we can only do this cold turkey. We have to accept the pain before the recovery.
This we must do for our future.
