If you ask the elderly, the old timers etc, they will tell you about the mysterious hand or "Tangan" (in Malay) moving to mark the PAP box in the ballot slips. These are same people that attended the opposition rallies, made disparaging comments about the PAP and are adamant about the need to PAP to less arrogant and more accountable.

Some put it down to fear, others recall and remember the Hock Lee bus riots followed by the race riots.

Others value the security provided by the PAP in a region that has been turbulent.

Even today people tell about the Tangan effect. This is also the reason why the PAP called for a one day cooling off period to allow a gap from the euphoria of opposition politics to the appearance of the Tangan.

I think it worked, after the high spirited rallies on Thursday i had a feeling that things might finally take a change only to be very disappointed on the 8th of May. Bro Scroobal, how abt the question i asked earlier?
