SINGAPORE - A cleaner who assaulted an assistant nurse after he told him to stop smoking in a hospital ward toilet was jailed for four weeks on Wednesday.
Muhammad Sholehin Jumari, 22, kicked 21-year-old Kaathisgesan Nadarajan in the thigh when he went to investigate after smelling smoke coming from the cubicle in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital on March 16 last year.
He also shoved him in the chest and punched him in the back of the head, leaving him needing hospital attention.
Two months later, Sholehin went to the Institute of Mental Health and requested to be admitted into the psychiatric ward.

Mother of seven-year-old boy found dead in Tampines arrested for alleged murder

SINGAPORE - The mother of the seven-year-old boy found dead at the foot of a Tampines HDB block has been arrested for alleged murder.
It is believed that the 42-year-old woman was arrested by Police on Saturday at their ninth-floor home at Block 815, Tampines Avenue 4.
A police spokesman said they received a call for assistance at the block, at 1.02pm on Saturday. Paramedics pronounced the boy dead at the scene. He is understood to have suffered injuries consistent with a fall from height. Wearing a yellow T-shirt and black shorts, he was found lying face down. Police cordoned off the foot of the block until nightfall.
The family's next-door neighbour, who wanted to be known only as Mr Tan, 61, told The Sunday Times that the boy was autistic and had lived there for more than five years with his parents, grandmother and 12-year-old brother. He said the family was close-knit and "very private".

Proofreading, like translation, is still one of the few jobs that can't be delegated to technology.

Authors who write books have to go through rounds of drafts, editing and proofreading before the book gets published.

SPH couldn't (or wouldn't) even get a simple article right. It should stick to the property business, dabble with shitty malls and office buildings. People who take and take and can't give back anything good to society are best suited for rent collection activities.
