when u board the new type of SBS bus, observe the awkard and comical action of senior citizens trying to steady and sit their butts on awkardly seats arrangement.

the new buses are totally senior citizens UNFRIENDLY. after boarding, commuters are suppose to move to the back. somewhere in the middle of the bus, the floorboard continues with 2 steps up. to continue moving backward, one must literally "climb" up 2 steps.

sadistic bus is aggravated by even more sadistic driver who drives the bus like jerking a train. u can observe almost tripping of commuters particularly the senior citizens, children and even unwary adults.

another sadistic bus model is even more torturous. it lines it seats in 2 parallel rows, one along each side of the bus interior. in order to trip more senior citizens, it is designed with another redundant nasty 2-steps i.e, u got to lift both ur legs before u can settle and sit on the crampy seats with obstructing holding bars. yes, the jerk driver would be just as sadistically glad to jerk u off balance.

this is the kind of pro-commuter, "excellent service" and later another reason to increase fares by avaricious SBS cos buying sadistic buses cost alot more than the formal good o' day buses.:oIo:

Increase the bus fare,

Buy new buses,

Yet it create even more problem !!

Increase the bus fare again,

so that can solve the problem ?

Holly shit !! What kind of mentality is this ??

Are we suppose to solve problem, instead of creating more problem ??

:confused::mad::(

just imagine if you are alighting when you are sitting quite far behind in a crowded bus. It would be so difficult to get to the door not only you have to squeeze your way thru, you also need to watch out for steps.

Not so good for the elderly, pregnant, carrying baby.

This new bus is definitely unfriendly. You have to be strong and hold on the rail. When the bus moved, it jerked possibly of too much torque, you got to hold on tight and when it braked, it was too effective and you were thrown forward. Maybe one trip, it could be the driver's fault but after many trips, the same thing happened.

just see how commuters trip over the steps. stupid!! how a floorboard of a bus be level into 2 unequal height separated by steps.

and the fare meters is not sensitive unlike the old ones u can beep ur farecard without taking it out of wallet or bags. the new ones, sometime u need too.

i once nearly smashed the meter. even after taking the farecard out, the meter still didn't respond with a beep!:oIo:

Stupid design, what were they thinking of ?

The two humps on the front right & left(tire well), one which stores the 1st aid fire extinguisher are blocking the way. Why couldn't they place seats there?

The raised steps just before the doorway is a bottlekneck without adequate handholds.

The new designs are not much of an improvement

The US/Canadian designed buses are spacious & don't have those tire well humps that you find in local buses.

Its obvious that "public" transport has low priority.

could it be that the new buses are the cheapest around? and buying those are just an excuse to raise fares further - just to appease and back up their reasonings and avarice?

I think they can buy cheaper & better buses elsewhere, but local assembled using cheep labour, with parts sourced from vaious sources is more profitable for some GLC(s)

If they want to waste money on a made in Spore bus, why couldn't they have done a better job? I can say from personal experience that there are better designs out there. There is also the option of re-using the same double decker designs

replacing with new buses (which could be very cheap) is just a conniving excuse to increase fares.

just like smrt, what was the purpose for removal of seats? to squeeze in more peasants and hence more fares. maxiumum utilisation of a moneymaking tube. who cares for commuters' comfort!:oIo:

Talking about sadistic buses, on the older buses that actually have well arranged full seatings, they actually ripped off the seats the make you stand. In more recent years, they've been doing the same to MRT trains.

Talking about MRT, the stations have also been built sadistically. Escalator one way on one side but staircase on the other side. They make passengers either climb the staircase or walk a long way away to find an escalator going their way.

Nothing beats the escalator maze at Dhoby Ghaut. Just count the number of escalators you have to go through when switching from the NS & NE lines.

At one end there's escalators going down but not up(NE line). Whenever a train arrives the congestion prevents passengers from getting on the train.

Before I can even get on to the train, the door closes in fron't of me:eek: Leaving me & the other commuters waiting behind me frustrated. There's no driver, just some automated system thats unable to compensate for the extra delay of passengers exiting from the trains.

With the opening of the new mall at Harbour Pavillion its just gotten worse.

they are overly exaggerated about the HANDICAP thingy. they neglected the majority of "senior citizens friendly".

for older folks with joints problems, climbing down the staircase is a more painful tedious task than climbing up.

as for the HANDICAPS, how many do one actually see them in public transport, public special handicap toilets, public handicap carparks or etc?

the gov maybe is doing this as those "handicap facilities" could be a shown off pieces to the public and the international eyes.

peesailand thrives on praises too. they frown on criticism whether it's constructive, sarcastic or simply direct exposure of the paps' flaws.

it's human nature, i m afraid. many behave the same way.

<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->The new single-deck buses from SBS Transit and SMRT may look nice but some commuters are unhappy with them.
One-third of 50 commuters - young and old - in a Sunday Times poll said the rides could be better.
Their beef was over issues like seating (fewer seats than the older buses) and design (the need to climb steps midway in the bus).
The buses run by SBS are made by Swedish company Scania while SMRT's are made by German firm Mercedes-Benz.
But there are advantages too. The new buses have low floors - about the same height as the kerb - and there are no steps at the doors. This is a plus for the elderly and less mobile passengers. The buses also have wheelchair-friendly features such as retractable ramps at the doors and two wheelchair lots.
SBS has rolled out 500 of these buses since November 2007 at a cost of $180 million. By the end of this year, another 400 are expected to hit the roads.
SMRT rolled out 67 new single- deck buses in May last year and plans to buy 60 more. Each costs more than $360,000.
In the Sunday Times poll, many feel moving about in the bus is not a breeze. Instead of a level platform from front to back, they have to mount two steps midway to get to the back, and climb another two steps to reach the rear-most seats.
Said retiree Teo Cher Muay, 64: 'The steps can be very dangerous for the elderly, as they have little strength in their legs. I've seen them trip.'
Even the young find the steps a challenge. 'I nearly fell the first few times I took this new bus, as it started to move before I sat down,' said student Goh Yee Hong, 22, who has ridden on both Scania and Mercedes-Benz buses.
Seating is another bugbear. Two-thirds of the respondents said they prefer the old buses, which have at least 10 more seats. The new buses have between 29 and 34 seats and come with more legroom.
The old buses are also perceived to give a smoother ride. The new models have more responsive and powerful brakes which could result in abrupt stops.
Dr Ian Gibson, associate professor from the School of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore, said drivers used to the older buses 'will have a tendency to apply more pressure on the brake pedal than is necessary, causing the bus to brake suddenly'.
SBS has received 'a handful of feedback' concerning the steps. Ms Tammy Tan, its vice-president of corporate communications, said: 'For these new buses, close to 90 per cent of injuries were due to passengers not holding on to the grab bars when moving on the bus.'
SMRT has received feedback that the steps are dangerous, especially for the elderly and women in high heels.
