New appointments to the boards of spring, JTC and EMA.

The Minister for Trade and Industry has appointed new members to the Boards of SPRING Singapore (SPRING), JTC Corporation (JTC) and Energy Market Authority (EMA).

In addition, there were re-appointments at SPRING, EMA and Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC). These appointments took effect on 1 April 2010.

SPRING Board

New Appointments

* Mr Roger Chia – Founder, Chairman and Managing Director, Rotary Engineering Limited

* COL Lai Chung Han – Director (Policy), Ministry of Defence

* Mr Viswa Sadasivan – Chief Executive Officer, Strategic Moves Pte Ltd

* Mr Tan Choon Shian – Deputy Managing Director, Economic Development Board

Re-appointments

* Ms Chong Siak Ching – President and Chief Executive Officer, Ascendas Pte Ltd

* Mr Thomas Chua – Chairman and Managing Director, Teckwah Industrial Corporation Ltd

* Mr Lim Boon Wee – Deputy Secretary (Land and Corporate), Ministry of Transport

New SPRING Board Members

* Mr Roger Chia, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director, Rotary Engineering Limited

Under Mr Chia’s leadership, Rotary Engineering has grown to be a leading player in the provision of engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance services for the oil & gas, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries. For the Singapore Corporate Awards event in 2009, Mr Chia was a joint winner in the “Best Chief Executive Officer of the Year” award for companies with $300 million to less than $1 billion in market capitalisation.

* COL Lai Chung Han, Director (Policy), Ministry of Defence

COL Lai has served in the Ministry of Defence since October 1992. He is a recipient of two scholarships – the SAF (Overseas) / President’s Scholarship and the SAF Postgraduate Scholarship (General Development) – which were awarded in 1992 and 2006 respectively. Current directorship positions held include Alternate Director with ST Electronics Ltd and Director with ST Electronics (Info-Comm Systems) Pte Ltd.

* Mr Viswa Sadasivan, Chief Executive Officer, Strategic Moves Pte Ltd

In 2008, Mr Viswa Sadasivan was bestowed the National Day Award (Military) – “The Commendation Medal”. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences from the National University of Singapore in 1983 and a Master of Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government & Administration, Harvard University, USA, in 1992. He has held a directorship position with Strategic Moves Pte Ltd since March 1997.

* Mr Tan Choon Shian, Deputy Managing Director, Economic Development Board

Mr Tan was appointed as Deputy Managing Director, EDB, in 2009 and has been with the Board since October 1992. He is also currently a Board Member of the Media Development Authority and a Director (ex-officio) with Shanghai Zhongxin Technology Venture Capital Co Ltd.

* New JTC Board Members, Major-General Neo Kian Hong Chief of Defence Force, Ministry of Defence

Major-General Neo was appointed Chief of Defence Force in April 2010 and
has served with the Ministry of Defence since 1984. His academic
achievements include a Master of Science (Management of Technology) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, in 1998. Currently, he also holds a directorship position in Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd.

* Mr Ong Ye Kung, Assistant Secretary-General, National Trades Union Congress

Before his appointment with NTUC, Mr Ong was Chief Executive of the
Singapore Workforce Development Agency. He has served in the public
service for 17 years during which he held positions in the Prime Minister’s
Office, Ministry of Trade and Industry, the then Ministry of Communications
and the Land Transport Authority. Mr Ong graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London, with a B.Sc in Economics (1st Class Honours) in 1991 and obtained an MBA from the
Institute of Management Development, Lausanne, in 1999.

* New EMA Board Member, Mr Tang Tuck Weng Director (Housing), Ministry of National Development

Mr Tang was awarded a Singapore Government Scholarship in 2001 to pursue a programme in Management / Management of Business in Stanford University, USA, where he obtained his Master of Science degree. He has held postings in the Ministry of National Development, Ministry of Education, the former Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Public Service Division, Prime Minister’s Office. He has served on the Boards of the Singapore Tourism Board, Nanyang Polytechnic, National Heritage Board and Singapore Discovery Centre.
