Johor police chief tightlipped on fugitive’s arrest
JOHOR BARU: Scores of Singaporean journalists who flocked here to get comments from the police over fugitive Mas Selamat Kastari’s arrest in Johor, were disappointed when police refused to comment.
Joined by their fellow journalists here, the Singapore press corps waited for about an hour before they were finally called in for a press conference at about 5pm.
But much to their disappointment, Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff remained tight-lipped over the arrest.
Instead, the press was briefed on how the Johor police and State Education Department planned to tackle disciplinary problems in schools.
Asked about Mas Selamat’s arrest, DCP Mokhtar retorted: “Today, I am going to exercise my right and my right is to tell you, at this point of time, no comment.”
He added that the media should know that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan had already issued a press statement on the arrest.
When he noticed that the press were disappointed with his reply, he quipped: “Don’t be sad, I have given you an answer. My answer is no comment.”
