The Indonesia agency has reportedly issued a tsunami warning after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake strikes near north coast of Papua.
The USGS initially recorded the quake at 7.4-magnitude,
but later revised it down to 7.0-magnitude.
Meanwhile, the ABC said the USGS had further
downgraded the quake to 6.4-magnitude.
The earthquake at 12.16pm local time was centered
about 123km from Biak, a small island located near the
northern coast of Papua province. It struck about 10km
deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to
Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.
Just minutes earlier, at 12.06pm local time,
a 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck only several
kilometers from the epicentre of the first earthquake.
That earthquake also struck 10km deep.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
