I have named this:
-- the goalgetter
-- the stayputter
-- the downgrader
-- the lawbreaker
We see all 4 types of people in all types of organizations and it's interesting how the leaders or managers of these organizations deal with them. It's like a cycle.
They have to be careful with the goalgetters, who are ambitious, savvy, probably good at what they do, climbing as high as they can, may be eyeing their position. Be wary, reward them appropriately, try to ensure their loyalty.
The stayputter is easier, he is quite content with what he is or making little advances.
The downgrader is almost resigned to his fate or situation. Don't push him too far and he will not go too far. But you can deal with him with an iron fist (or a knuckle duster), and he will maintain his ideals but still stay within your comfort zone.
With the lawbreaker, it's back to square one and almost like dealing with the goalgetter. You need to be wary because this guy will do anything, he doesn't give a shit anymore. You may actually have to "reward" him.
It seems many organizations and leaders haven't met this kind of person.
