Trying to rid the environment of temptations is the first step towards religious tyranny both against believers and non-believers.

We believe alcohol is bad, tobacco is bad, gambling is bad, prostitution is bad etc. etc. There're others who enjoy them even knowing that they're bad deep down inside their hearts. They succumb to temptations.

Jesus didn't preach banning and getting rid of temptations. Jesus Himself went out to the desert to face temptations for 40 days. For without facing temptations and summoning up one's personal free will to reject them, there could never be realisation and liberation of oneself.

What's the use of not murdering someone else, when you really want to do it, but you're only deterred by lack of availability of weapon or fear of legal penalty? You're still murderous at heart. However, if you understand that murdering is evil, you're liberated from the sin and the laws. The laws against weapon sales and murder are meaningless on you. You won't murder even if given a free gun and murder is decriminalised.
