Toyota is making a bold move in the world’s largest EV market, aiming to take on BYD and other budget-friendly brands. On 6-March, its Chinese joint venture, GAC-Toyota, officially launched the bZ3X—a heavily reskinned version of the GAC Aion V—as its most affordable electric SUV yet. Priced from CNY 109,800 (~ RM 68k), the overwhelming demand saw over 10,000 orders in just one hour, causing the server to crash.

Dubbed Toyota’s “first 100,000-yuan-level pure electric SUV” in China, the bZ3X (Bozhi 3X) is the brand’s most budget-friendly EV to date. The launch follows blind pre-orders that began in December, with prices starting just under CNY 100,000 yuan (~RM 61k).
The bZ3X comes in two versions—with or without full-scenario smart driving tech. The base model starts at CNY 109,800 (~RM 68k) with five trim options, while the smart driving version begins at CNY 149,800 (~RM 92k).

For those seeking more range, the range-topping 610 Max trim boasts up to 610 km CLTC range from a 67.92 kWh LFP battery. The entry-level 430 Air variant offers 430 km CLTC range with a 50.03 kWh LFP battery.
At 4,600 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,645 mm tall, the bZ3X is similar in size to the BYD Yuan Plus (Atto 3), which measures 4,455 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,615 mm tall. With a starting price of CNY 115,800 (~RM 71k), Toyota’s new EV slightly undercuts BYD’s popular electric SUV.
