In spore even the food we eat has lost its identity...the good old days of mobile food of yesteryears is being wipe our by the newbies(children of the original)who took over from their dad and mum and emply FT to cook instead...these newbies were exploit the increase of prices in accordance to the sky high price of the pigeon hole and the influx of FT who know nothing about our past glorious local food..the present greedy food operators jack up the prices to maintain their affluent lifestyle instead of humbly telling food lovers..i am glad you you still like my cheap and tasty food even though my dad is not cooking it..

the cheapest food of yesteryear and at resonable price i can think of now only two stand out..
1.Popiah
2.Rojak
tink about it they have got the most ingredient at $1 to $1.50 and are healthy too.

I can only tink of 4 hawker centre that still sell good cheap original glorious food.

1.Dumman road hawker centre at joo chiat.(bro papsmearer correct or not)
2.Chong pang hawker centre.
3.Tiong Bahru hawker centre.
4.Maxwell hawker abit ex due to CBD area.

Yah, being honest is good for us but not them.

Example the "Lau Hong Soh" rojak, he takes a bloody full 5 minutes to serve out one order. I think if he cut the crap of being a male spider on heat while making the dish, he could have serve out at least 2 or 3 orders within that time frame. Alternatively, he can engage more helpers other then his equally slow "wife"?

I like his rojak, but always have ask the time taken before I order, not uncommon to wait for more then an hour.

Anyway, he should be driving Mercedes by now, not the 3 wheel scooter that he is driving now.

The good hawker food is getting less and less, but there still some good stalls around.
All the more reason we should treasure them.

Nowadays, there are some places selling popiah at $2.50 to $3. There are some places selling ordinary rojak at $4 to $5 per plate.
For me, Qi Ji popiah is still ok, at $1.80 or $1.90. Still not as expensive as those above. There are some stalls in heartland coffeshops still at $1 to $1.50, quite decent tasting.
Good rojak can get from "Brothers" stalls at Clementi and Zion Road hawker centre.

Other good hawker centres include Golden Mile, Chinatown/Smith Street, Market Street, Anoy Street, Ghim Moh, Whampoa, etc.

yes, i agree...

all the good old days hawker fares are going soon....

and the standard also tumbles like shit....and we pay like shit to eat those shitty stuff prepared by FTs and the newbies...

gone liao!!!

You need to blame the Grasslooters and ruling regime .

For chasing away the old hawker centres with low rent .

For the next new hawker centres.

You be paying at least 5 middleman before you have your meal .
