Friday, 8/16, waited at Mountbatten for a cab, and his guy came along, and asked him to bring me to Eunos, Jln Eunos.
All he knew was Eunos Cresent.
From his mannerism and voice its was clear he was a foreigner before converting to SPorean (as all cab drivers MUST be Sporean).
So I asked him "When you came to SPore?" - "I am Sporean!"
"I know you SG, but when you came here?"
"I was born here" (Clearly a lie, why he has to do that?)
"So where did you do your NS?"
"What is NS" (Gosh)
After a few more questions, he gotten very angry by then, and accused me of being a police. Asked me if I want to see his I/C, and that only a policeman can demand his i/c.
For me, its like F, all I wanted to know was when he came here and hows he liking it!!!!
Then he said, said I should get off his cab.
I said fine, drop me here then (Its was Dunman road, I think).
Told him f off, when we wanted the $5 fare on the meter. Said, its you who wanted me out, so I am not going to pay.
Was just too shocked to get the cab nmbr etc, as all I wanted was an innocent conversation with a "new citizen".
Anyone, has a sensible answer as you why they get so hostile when asked about their conversion?
