The "Conspiracy" Conspiracy.

People with great power and wealth who want to collectively increase their power and wealth have a powerful tool at their disposal. It's just a word. One could say it's the magic word, that makes all suspicion disappear and all scrutiny end (lest you be branded a total nut). There are many who believe that, in a world driven by the corporate bottom line, there is a moral line that nobody will cross. Yet that line has already been crossed time and time again. The fact that folks seem so willing to believe that large corporate entities will never conspire to maximize profits at the cost of public health or well being seems to confirm that society has chosen denial over outrage, thus opening the door wide to even worse abuses of power. Then again, this could all just be a conspiracy theory... You know, like Elvis being alive, The existence of the Loch Ness monster, and the health hazards of smoking.
