Obviously they forgot to add a caveat: Some citizens are more equal than others especially if you are connected to the ruling PAP:
Let us compare the plights of 2 different Singaporeans:
Corporal Jeremy Tan, 26:
“I discharge my NS duties diligently. After giving my life to the nation, this is how they treat me !”Forcefully enlisted into 2 years of compulsory National Service against his will, paid a token sum below market rates to serve as cheap labor for the army.
Found to be in a comatose state when he is doing guard duty in a SAF camp.
Mindef subsidised his medical treatment at Tan Tock Seng Hospital from the time of the accident up to Feb 28, 2007, when he was regarded as having been discharged from hospita and gave him $5,000 from the SAF Benevolent Fund. In addition, Mindef had offered on compassionate grounds $500 a month for five years to assist him. (That’s about all they did)
However, MINDEF refused to continue paying Mr Tan’s medical bills after his discharge as his injuries were deemed to be NOT SERVICE-RELATED and hence he is not eligible for compensation though it is obvious he suffered the injuries in camp. (What the hell will the corporal being doing in a SAF camp if he is not on duty ???)
Jeremy’s parents have chalked up outstanding hospital bills totalling $133,000 for his upkeep. (With their son in a comatose state, who is going to support them for the rest of their lives ??)
PAP MP Seng Han Thong, 59:
“I swear I am going to give that blood F**KER HELL for the rest of his life once I am out of this CB place !!”Recruited by the PAP to be their MP representing Yio Chu Kang in 2006, won the elections easily under the banner of the ruling party. Paid $13,900 a month as a MP, not sure if he has other sources of income.
Set upon fire by a disgrunted resident who is either peeved with him or the ruling PAP.
Sustained 14% burns to his face, neck and back. Warded in SGH Burns Unit under the care of one of the best plastic surgeons and nurses in Singapore. Medical expenses all covered either by insurance or the government. Continue to receive his monthly MP pay while on sick leave.
His assailant Ong Kah Chua charged in court for causing grievous hurt to a public servant, likely to be convicted though he is of mentally unsound mind.
Well, who can Jeremy blame except he is born to the wrong family ? In Singapore, once you are an elite like this “Le Cordon Tan” cook below, you are an elite for life:

If Corporal Jeremy Tan is a “white horse” like the son of Permanent Secretary Tan Yong Soon above, will MINDEF have treated his case so shabbily ? Will they dare not to offer his family any compensation ?
All right, peasants, let’s stop blaming the ELITES for our problems. Just pray we are reborn into a house with a “LIGHTNING” sign on its rooftop when we die.
