The Tobago Forest Reserve has been a protected reserve since 1776, making it the oldest in the western hemisphere. It is one of the most beautiful too, home to 9,780 acres of tropical rainforest and more than 210 species of bird, including the Trinidad motmot and blue-backed manakin. The reserve covers two thirds of the island of Tobago, but Gilpin Trace is probably the best place to start exploring as most of the trails start from here.
