In another thread, we were discussing about a ministar's claim that the cake is getting bigger for the opposition.
Even if the cake is indeed getting bigger, and even this is not certain, is it really getting bigger for the opposition?
Or is it merely getting bigger for more and more pappies who want to eat it?
There seem to be more and more "tiers" of pappies in recent years.
In the past, most of us would know the ministars, and perhaps the ministars of state. Most of us would not know who the backbenchers were unless we had some contact with them or even who the lower level appointment holders like parliamentary secretaries were.
But nowadays, it seems that more and more of them are becoming prominent, and most seem to have some kind of cause or pet project or pet peeve. You have the sporty type, the cycling type, the filial type, the workers' type, the financial wiz type, the legal wiz type, the foreign talent type, etc etc.
Even funnier still, some who have their ultimate ambition fulfilled, will then "pass the baton" on to another to "fight for the cause".
Almost everyone seems to have an agenda, a cause, or a goal, but are these just a camouflage for ultimate ambition and their own little empire?
Should they get back to basics, i.e. helping ordinary Singaporeans to have a better life?
