Court's ruling timely and praiseworthy

THE Court of Appeal's overruling of a fatwa ('Inheritance dispute: 'General law will prevail over fatwa'', last Thursday) in the case of the estate of Mr Obeidillah Salim Talib is timely and praiseworthy.
The ruling is especially enlightening for me, a Muslim woman in a mixed marriage, and raises hope for those of us who may find ourselves in a similar predicament as that encountered by Mr Obeidillah's widow.
I find it ironic that Muslim law dictates I must leave half of my inheritance to family members and siblings, even if it goes against my wishes.
Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong's reiteration that the general law will prevail has clarified a persistent dilemma for Muslims like myself.
Thank you, Chief Justice.
