BANGKOK, Sept. 29 (AP) - (Kyodo)—Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva played down Tuesday Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen's remarks on a border conflict between the two countries and vowed to resolve the problem peacefully.
On Monday, Hun Sen said he had ordered Cambodian troops to shoot anyone who illegally enters into Cambodian territory and threatened to skip a regional summit to be held in Thailand next month if the dispute over an ancient temple on the border of the two countries remains unsolved.
Hun Sen's remarks came after Thai protesters rallied at a disputed border area near the Preah Vihear temple Sept. 19.
Abhisit told a press conference that Thailand will continue negotiations with Cambodia through the Cambodian-Thai Joint Boundary Commission.
He added that Thai troops will not enter Cambodian territory.
"We will carefully continue to negotiate with Cambodia and reiterate our stance to protect our right, territory and sovereignty," he said.
