Warning: Thailand is Not Fun Anymore! Antibiotic-Resistant Horror STDs on the rise — i catched one and it Was a Nightmare
I wanted to share my story as a warning to others. While traveling, I ended up catching an antibiotic-resistant STD (Mycoplasma Genitalium), and it was one of the most terrifying and exhausting experiences of my life.
What I thought would be a quick fix turned into months of treatments and thousands of dollars in medical bills. The usual antibiotics didn’t work, and I had to go through multiple rounds of stronger drugs with terrible side effects… nausea, exhaustion, you name it. On top of that, the constant testing and hospital visits drained me mentally and financially.
I hate to say it, but Thailand just isn’t what it used to be.
It feels like 60-70% of women here are infected with some kind of STD, and the situation is only getting worse. What was once a paradise for nightlife and meeting people has turned into a breeding ground for diseases.
The problem? Men from every corner of the world are flying in and bringing in the most exotic, antibiotic-resistant STDs you can imagine. Instead of taking care of their health or being responsible, they spread these infections around like wildfire. And with antibiotics failing to work on so many strains now, it’s turning into an absolute disaster.
If you think you’re safe because you use protection, think again. Even that isn’t a 100% guarantee. The sheer volume of infections here makes it almost impossible to avoid some kind of risk. And let’s not even start on the number of people who don’t disclose their status.
Honestly, the whole situation has killed the vibe. What’s the point of coming to a place like this if all you’re left with is worry, doctors’ visits, and regrets?
Thailand seriously needs to address this health crisis because, at this rate, the country’s reputation is heading downhill fast. Until then, I’d think twice before flying here expecting a good time… it’s just not worth it anymore.
What do you guys think? Anyone else feel the same way?
P.S.: I forgot to mention, it wasn’t a prostitute—it was a regular female Thai office worker I met on Tinder. It’s okay to make fun of me, but I wouldn’t wish this STD on my worst enemy. You can read more about my experience and others’ in r/MycoplasmaGenitalium
