Thai woman nabbed over cannabis slabs in bag
BUKIT KAYU HITAM: Authorities detained a Thai woman at the Malaysia-Thai border here after finding 18.9kg of cannabis worth over RM45,000 hidden among clothes in her two bags. State Customs director Ishak Ahmad said the 34-year-old woman had boarded a Malaysian registered taxi in Danok before arriving at the Immigration and Customs Quarantine Complex at 1.35pm on Friday. “When a female Customs officer asked her to open the bags, the woman claimed that they only contained clothes.
“Upon searching the clothes, 20 slabs of cannabis were found,” he said. He said the taxi driver, in his 30s, was released after having his statement recorded. The woman, from Bangkok, had been put under remand for a week to be investigated for drug trafficking under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries the death penalty. Ishak also said between January and November this year, the department had seized 81.5kg of drugs, worth some RM1.5mil, at the Bukit Kayu Hitam border.
