Thai PM faces impeachment motion

Thailand's opposition has filed an impeachment motion against Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

It has accused him of abusing his power and siding with protesters who hijacked Bangkok's airports.

The move by the Puea Thai party is the latest twist in a bitter political struggle that has divided the kingdom since former premier Thaksin Shinawatra was toppled in a 2006 coup.

The Puea Thai party is allied to Thaksin.

It said said Mr Abhisit should not have made Kasit Piromya foreign minister because of his support for the People's Alliance for Democracy or PAD.

The PAD helped undermine pro-Thaksin governments last year through a street campaign that led to the blockade of Bangkok's main airports in November.
