Two soldiers were injured in the attack on Monday morning. Their conditions were now stable when the explosives were fired into the 1st Battalion of the 1st Infantry Regiment opposite the NBT station on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road.
The explosives were suspected to be fired from a tollway in front of the battalion.
Anupong's official residence is inside the compound.
Initial investigation showed that the blast damaged the battalion's front fences and fall a big tree there.
The injured soldiers were Sgt Preechai Parnsamut who suffered a abdominal injury and Private Noom Srifueng whose left arm was wounded.
Police believed that the attack which was conducted in broad daylight and at an army office, was aimed at trying to instigate the chaos.
An investigator, Pol Maj Gen Amnuey Nimmanoh, said that police would check video clips from the security cameras on the tollways which run over the site.
Private Pakorn Saengsri, who was guarding at the front booth, said a group of assailants fired four M-79 grenades into the compound.
There were many soldiers at the time of the attack, he said. He himself dug into the ground when he heard the sounds of the explosions.

After the red shirt reached the 11th Infantry Regiment, the army's public relation team welcomed the protesters through a loudspeaker in northeastern dialect calling on them to rally in peace. The army tried to reduce tension asking the protesters to see soldiers as their own children.
The red shirts initially did not know whether the voice was that of their leaders but when Veera Musikapong, one of the red shirts leader arrived at the scene with a truck loaded with loudspeaker systems, then they realised the voice was from the army.
Veera asked the army to stop using their loud speakers which are louder than his speakers otherwise the red shirts will cut the power to the 11th Infantry Regiment, the demand which was met.
