For Tom Jones, below, this is unusual: the singer has canceled several concerts in Asia in recent days on the advice of his doctors, who say he could risk injuring his vocal cords, Reuters reported. Last Friday, Mr. Jones, the 69-year-old Welsh crooner of “What’s New Pussycat?” and “It’s Not Unusual,” began a concert at a casino in Sentosa, the Singapore island resort, but stopped the show after two songs. He rescheduled the performance for Thursday, citing laryngitis, but canceled that show as well as a subsequent concert scheduled for Saturday in Seoul, South Korea. A statement on his Web site, tomjones.com, said the cancellations were “due to doctor’s orders.” It added that though Mr. Jones “has been resting his voice all week,” his doctors warned him that he “could risk serious permanent damage to his vocals” if he performed. The singer has additional concerts scheduled l this month in Cape Town and Johannesburg, as well as in Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
