Teenager sentenced to reformative training for sexual offences

SINGAPORE: A 17-year-old was sentenced on Tuesday to reformative training for sexual offences involving two underage girls.
Peh Jun Jie committed the offences between April and September last year, when he was 16.
The girls cannot be named to protect their identity.
The prosecution proceeded on two charges and took the remaining three into consideration.
Reformative training is a regime where offenders below the age of 21 are sent to a reformative training centre for at least 18 months, as they undergo structured rehabilitation programmes.
This term can be extended to three years.
Peh committed the offences while on home leave during a period of remand in Singapore Boys' Hostel.
He had been placed there for breaching his probation order for unrelated offences.
The court heard that Peh had befriended the first girl through social networking site Facebook after which they met and went to Peh's home where they had consensual sex. The girl was 15 at the time.
In the offences involving the second girl, who was only 13 then, the court heard Peh had met her through mutual friends.
He invited the girl and her friends to his flat where he had consensual sex with her in the kitchen toilet.
Those found guilty of performing sex acts with anyone under the age of 16 can be jailed up to 10 years and fined.
