KUALA LUMPUR - Police arrested a teenager after he and two others molested and robbed a college student at the Jalan Hang Tuah Light Rail Transit (LRT) station, here, on Tuesday.
The 15-year-old suspect, who is a school dropout, was caught red-handed after several policemen saw the gang terrorising the student at about 10.30am and gave chase.
City police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh said the suspect was holding the victim's smart phone when he was caught.
"The female victim was walking alone outside the station when three boys suddenly approached and pushed her to the ground.
"The suspects then groped her before snatching her Apple iPhone 4. The victim also suffered injuries to her knees," said Mohmad.
Several policemen on patrol duty witnessed the incident and gave chase. They nabbed one of the suspects. The suspect had a knife in his possession.
Mohmad said police have received several reports on snatch theft cases involving teenagers at several LRT stations in the city.
"The teenagers, between the ages of 14 and 18, operate in small groups. They would target victims at the LRT stations," he said, adding that the cases were reported at the LRT stations in Jalan Hang Tuah, Jalan Imbi and Jalan Bukit Bintang.
