Technology enriches mio TV's football experience

WE REFER to the Forum Online letter by Mr Lim Sutjipto ("Second-best live telecast"; June 29).

SingTel's mio TV is delivered to television sets via a next-generation technology called Internet Protocol TV or IPTV. IPTV allows customers to control and enrich their viewing experience. For example, they can pause, rewind and record live TV programmes, and the mio TV website allows subscribers to programme their recordings even when they are not at home.

The enhanced features on mio TV's new "mio Stadium" channel are a clear demonstration of how we are harnessing this technology to bring new innovations to the market. mio Stadium will introduce a brand new feature that allows fans to push a button on their remote control while watching the Barclays Premier League games to access statistics, facts, live scores and other information, enabling them to access the latest developments without any disruption to the viewing experience. In parallel with adding such benefits through the technology, we are also working with our vendors to reduce the time taken for packet conversion.

These enhanced features and advanced technology require conversion of the original TV footage from video signals to IP packets, resulting in a short delay on the mio TV platform of six seconds, compared with free-to-air television. This small delay is more than compensated for by the rich experience that mio TV offers. A mio TV subscription to the World Cup enables customers to watch all 64 matches live and in high definition, and includes complimentary access to the matches on their SingTel mobile phone and the Internet simulcast.

We would like to thank Mr Sutjipto for his feedback.

Anything to do with Internet Protocol TV or IPTV is not "LIVE".

There will be a time lapse of seconds to minutes depending on the streaming capabilities of the service provider.

Watch "live" soccer with Internet Protocol TV or IPTV AT YOUR OWN RISK.

When someone shouts GOAL (watching same on some other median) and your "live" game has no goal yet; you will understand Internet Protocol TV or IPTV.<input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="if(typeof(jsCall)=='function'){jsCall();}else{setTimeout('jsCall()',500);}" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">

In live sports six seconds transmission delay is intolerable, Singtel insist on saying this small delay is more than compensated for by the rich experience that mio TV offers when lots of costumers complain about this.

They really heck care but there's nothing they can do either.

that tricia lee has got water infused into her brain.

which is more important? Watching Rooney scoring a goal (almost live) as it happens against Liverpool and feeling climaxed or clicking on screen menu to see how many matches have Liverpool lost prior to today?

KNN, tok such cock and don't even understand why we watch live soccer.

Obviously they don't care lah, the "rich experience " they are referring to is the expected profits they expect to make.

cool down guys. once world cup is over this sunday, no one will experience the 6 second delay anymore since singtel are the only ones showing EPL.

5 more days. every singtel subscriber just endure 5 more days and the delay will be 'fixed'.
