Teacher who caned maid gets 2 years' probation

A teacher at Junyuan Secondary School, who caned her maid on three occasions, was placed on two years' probation on Monday.

Lee Meng Choo was also ordered to pay $10,950 to Ms Sri Maryati, 24, as loss of earnings since August 2009.

Lee, 54, who suffers from dysthymia, a form of chronic depression, also agreed to go for follow-up psychiatric and psychological treatment.

She had pleaded guilty in April to abusing the maid and the district court had then ordered for a probation report.
