The video posted by ThreadStarter does a very good explanation for the drop in value of the RMB against the US dollar & other currencies, as well as the explanation for the pros & cons of such a strategy to counter the high US tariffs.

With a lower RMB, its goods for exports will be cheaper, & factories can still churn out goods, saving jobs.

As it imports less products, the standard of living will be lower as high end big ticket items such as even an Iphone or vacations, overseas education, etc would be out of reach to the 99%, which they probably can do without, as they still have Xiaomi car & phones, or travel to the picturesque ChengDu or Harbin for vacations.

However, China is not a resource rich nation. It still needs to import crude oil, natural gas, coal, iron ore, copper, and various other industrial and agricultural raw materials for its manufacturing & industries which create jobs, but such items will cost MORE with a lower RMB......a zero sum game, sadly....for the People & entrepreneurs of China...
