At a thank-you dinner held at his Frankel Avenue home yesterday evening, Mr Tan Jee Say told media that he had already won three-quarters of the race.
As for the three points in which he had won, he said it was having the PEC's endorsement of his bid to become President, being able to clarify the role of the President, and engaging the Government with new ideas. If he does become President, he said it will be his crowning glory.
However, he did admit that Singaporeans may prefer a less confrontational President. But he remained confident of his chances of winning.
He said: "Those of us who are used to a contest of ideas should get used to the idea of being challenged, that nobody is going to accept whatever you say, unquestioned. Those days are past for Singapore, we have moved on to another stage of development."
When asked for his high and low points during his campaign trail, he replied that he had only high points, no low ones. His high points came when people tell them of their stories and thank him for coming forward to speak on their behalf.
