US chopper blasts clinic after Taliban checks in
26 August 2009

KABUL – NATO and Afghan officials say a U.S. helicopter has attacked a medical clinic in eastern Afghanistan after a wounded Taliban commander sought treatment there.

Officials say U.S. and Afghan forces clashed with insurgents at the clinic after militants put up resistance. The militant death toll from Wednesday's fight varied widely from none killed to 12 dead.

A U.S. statement Thursday says an AH-64 Apache helicopter fired rounds at the clinic after it was cleared of civilians. It says seven insurgents have been detained.

Hamidullah Zhwak, spokesman for Paktika province's governor, says the attack began after a wounded Taliban commander went for treatment at the clinic. U.S. and Afghan forces were tipped off and fighting with some 20 militants lasted about five hours.

The just flouted the First Geneva Convention...

In times of war, attacking a medical facility is a war crime.

Guess the Japanese were clueless about the Geneva tenets when they reach Alexander Hospital during WW II in Singapore.

I believe the Geneva Conventions were only drawn up after WW2

And I'm sure the cruelty of Japanese bastards had something to do with it

Collateral damage.
And rules of engagement is for combat operations in military.
Not against terrorists
AFAIK

OIC.. So the rules of engagement don't apply to non-uniform militia...

White men are the best with drawing up laws in their favour and applying them selectively

The First Geneva Convention was signed is 1864, but it consisted of signatures from a handful of European countries.

Depends on what's going on.

Rules of engagement applies to non-uniformed militia too. The US first has to give the 'enemy' the opportunity to surrender.

hey asshole, tell that to those terrorist who killed innocent bystander during their hotel bombing......

Want to talk rules of engagement with "seow ren"

How do you define terrorist?

To the Western world, the Taliban are terrorist.

But to the people in the Middle East, the Western world is the terrorist. Conducting carpet bombing of Iraq and killing innocent civilians.

So who's right?

Please read more before embarassing yourself here

Obviously you can't tell one Muslim from another

They are Afghani militants not terrorists

They are armed civilians fighting guerilla warfare like Che Guevara, Force 136 and French Resistance

I still don't think it is a good idea to take out a medical facility.

Not everyone in that facility is out to kill an infidel, some are just unlucky to be in the wrong place in the wrong time.

I guess in war all these rules go out the window quickly

Prisoners of war are a logistical burden to the enemy side for food, space and security

They are only valuable for military intel (thru interrogation of course) and POW exchange later

IN war you and your buddy is on your own, you kill everything that could harm you in different uniform and those who aren't in uniform.

If you are not a klller, don't ever end up in a war situation.

Well, most people in middle east are muslims. And many do not have sympathy for the terrorists who use their religion as an excuse to commit terrible crimes. But the others who support these terrorists, they suffer from blind faith syndrome - " my religious 'brothers are always right " - that kind of stupid crap. So their views on the western world are null and void.

The terrorists should always be considered as a specimen that has to be eradicated. No matter what.
