Taleban release Chinese engineer
February 15, 2009
Taleban militants in north-western Pakistan have released a Chinese engineer held hostage for more than five months.
A Taleban spokesman was quoted as saying the engineer was freed as a "goodwill gesture" to the Chinese.
The engineer, Long Xiaowei, arrived at China's embassy in Islamabad on Sunday and was in good health, a Chinese official said.
Mr Long was captured in August in the Dir region with a Chinese colleague.
The colleague escaped in October, a Taleban spokesman said at the time.
A Pakistani guard and driver who had been captured with the two engineers were recovered at the same time.
