Taiwanse Man Arrested at Phnom Penh International Airport for Trying to Smuggle 5 Kilos of Meth to Japan

Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): Phnom Penh Municipal Court's spokesperson confirmed on the afternoon of March 13, 2024, that following an investigation into individuals linked to drug-related crimes, charges have been formally brought against them. Offenses such as drug trafficking, storage, transportation, and illegal drug use are punishable under Articles 40 and 45 of the Law on Drug Control.
Authorities at Phnom Penh International Airport's departure terminal apprehended a Chinese-Taiwanese passenger aboard flight K6-818 destined for Japan on the night of March 10, 2024. Upon examination, Cambodian Customs and Excise officials discovered 35 packages of white powder concealed on the body of the Taiwanese individual.
Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine weighing 4,965.30 grams (nearly 5 kilograms), intended for shipment to Japan.
After conducting thorough inspections and tests in coordination with the Prosecutor's Office of Phnom Penh Municipal Court, the suspects, exhibits, and related materials were transferred to the Anti-Drug Crime Department for further legal proceedings and management.
A press release shared on Facebook by representatives from the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia on March 11, 2024, highlighted the success of efforts to combat illegal drug smuggling activities to Japan.
The Taiwanese individual is currently in custody pending further investigation by an assigned judge on the evening of March 13.
